This is not the average for every employee, and it is not a measured C-suite average. It is still relevant to executives because leaders often occupy communication-heavy roles. The practical problem is not that every ping receives an immediate response. A visible or audible alert can force a small decision: open it, dismiss it, remember it, or worry that it is urgent. Those decisions compete with the active task even when the message remains unread.
